Overview of Medical Cannabis in Maine

Ballot Question 2 for cultivation and possession was passed in 1999, and Ballot Question 5 for not-for-profit dispensaries and voluntary registry of patients was passed in 2009, both were passed as ballot initiatives. Patients may choose not to register with the state, but still need a written recommendation from a doctor that resides in-state. Maine also accepts patients from other states to utilize dispensary services for up to 30 days under certain conditions. Home Cultivation is also allowed.
